Ringwood is emerging as a potential Glass manufacturing zone.

Glass manufacturing is booming in Australia and the suburbs of Melbourne have seen the biggest upsurge in glass production in the recent years. The main economic activity of the suburbs of Melbourne is glass production. The glass industry in the suburbs of Melbourne has employed millions of people and many glass products factories have come up in the vicinity. These factories use glass as a raw material for their products. Thus the glass industry gets a ready market for its finished goods and the rest is exported to other countries via the port of Melbourne.

Ringwood is another suburb of Melbourne that is being converted into a glass manufacturing zone. Ringwood has a good connectivity to Melbourne and hence people, resources and finished goods can be mobilized easily. Ringwood has contributed largely to the total production of glass in the recent years. Glass production from Ringwood is growing at the rate of 10% on a year on year basis.

Many small and medium scale industries which make glass products such as utensils, shower screens, windows, doors, etc. are setting up factories in Ringwood. The government has decided to give shower screens, Ringwood a status of a special economic zone in order to boost production and export of glass finished products.
